Forgotten Winter - Vinda album cover

Two Portuguese masterminds behind this band deserve full recognition. "Vinda" by FORGOTTEN WINTER is, undeniable, one of the better pieces of music produced, yet. The problem is that their resources are not as large as some orchestral-minded bands, because if this was, everyone would know of this band already!

The strong intro on "Uldene" is a small omen to what I believe is an amazing album, full of well thought through Ambient album with nice Black Metal elements placed in the background. The second song, "Névoa"  is one song one could listen to, but yet not hear the first time. the deep layers in the music prevent one from fully enjoying the piece at one, making a second listen very comfortable. The time between their previous album "Origem da Inexistência", to which I can only think of a translation, to the "origin of Inexistence" is just two years. This is one very small timeframe in which the duo has been working, making this album, when thinking of it, even more impressive.

The small downside for one could sometimes be a slight chance of brickwall effect. The songs are quite loud, making the beauty just sometimes seeming less in their place. This only applies to some parts, so the mixing and producing is actually quite nice over the album, but I can not give this album only 9 points without some less positive feedback.

The lyrics are well found. Not very deep with political or religious messages, just some atmospheric, cosmic lyrics, fully written in Portuguese. I like the way it sounds in the music. This might be because I can not understand it, so it sounds like some druids are chanting in an old, forgotten language, but with this album, that is exactly I would wish for.

"Vinda" is one of those albums you could ideally listen to while in need of concentration, while reading or just when you want some ambient, instead of double-bass-drum blast-beats for once. I could recommend it. It might not be BURZUM, but this is competition for Varg.
