Midnight Groove
Heartbreak Remedy

HEARTBREAK REMEDY was formed in 2013 when bassist and lead singer Matt Penn and drummer Stephen Jackson got together, soon guitarists Callum Glynn and Luke Blair joined them and formed the quartet we are looking at right now. They are hoping to bring back the 70s sound with a modern spin on it.
The problem I have with many of these bands with retro sounds is they sound tired. It is like putting young voices to an old man, it simply doesn't work. People don't just want the 70s sound, they want the attitude, the vibe, the craziness! This band reminds me a heck load of LED ZEPPELIN. The guitar effects, steady drumming are all nods to one of the biggest band of all time. Singing, it just haven't the singing to match the classic rock grooves.
The singing is pretty uninspiring and doesn't get my blood pumping. Despite saying that they are inspired by 70s Rock, the vocals sound more like early 2000s Pop Punk. There are exceptions of course, such as the half-singing, half-speaking style in "Tell Me Why" that gives it a kind of storytelling experience. There are some cringe-worthy lines in this album such as "Starting to lose my mind 'cause you are driving me crazy". Get it, because crazy and losing one's mind? Nah, I can't go that cheesy. On with the review!
I think this band does pretty well in the instrumental department but they just do not have the vocals to match up with what they are playing which is a real pity. This is a good album to have in your long drive, it is some feel good music and good to nod your head over while you are on the road. If you are into old school rock with tons of memorable guitar riffs, this is definitely for you!
