Today, I bring you "Damned Unto Death" from EVO & ALGY. I had great hopes when I started my research on this band. Paul Evo, former drummer and vocals for WARFARE and Algy Ward from TANK, two stars and friends brought together to give us their first EP as a duo, but I was a bit disappointed.

The overall sound of the album is great; the artists are awesome at what they do. This is impressive when you realized that they both play 2 instruments and share the vocals on most of the songs. But they do not give us a lot of new material. Which brings me to my disappointment; the album is only 6 songs long and 3 of those are covers of other bands, namely: MOTÖRHEAD, STATUS QUO, and THE SAINTS (for whom Algy Ward played bass in the 70s). So only, 3 originals songs, but they feel like it's been done before. Nothing really stands out from those 3 songs.

Now back to the good stuff. Algy Ward really shows us that he is an amazing guitar player. The riffs are awesome throughout the album and they feel just right. The bass is good also, but nothing fancy. As for Paul Evo, his rugged/biker voice gives us a brutal sound that we either love or hate, there is no middle ground. His voice reminds me Ian Fraser Kilmister singer of MOTÖRHEAD. Which brings another point: why cover R.A.M.O.N.E.S. when it sounds almost the same? Well, according to Evo: it was a tribute to his good friend Würzel (R.I.P.), who wrote a song for his daughter Katy called "Kalmer For Katy".

In conclusion: I would love to hear more of this duo, with more original songs of theirs. Hopefully this is a plan for the future as both are currently flying solo. They might decide to continue this association and bring us a full-length album next time. But for this EP, I wouldn't recommend it, except maybe for fans of TANK and WARFARE that are interested for completeness.
