Berlin

Opening with a fuzz-drenched, blues rock riff in the form of "Lord of the Sky", KADAVER's third album, "Berlin", is setting out to show that this could be one of those career making records. This analogue adventure definitely has a lot more of a warmth of sound than some of the more digitised alternatives in the rock market, and definitely shows that sometimes looking backward is as god as innovation for the recording process.
There is a raw, earthy honesty to the way the songs are written, which combines with a powerful simplicity and a whole lot of groove. This German power trio wear their influences proudly on their sleeves, referencing British 70's blues-rock and psychedelic music. This old-school style doesn't phase the band, however, and songs with names like "Last Living Dinosaur", suggest that they can take any suggestion that they are too backward looking or clichéd with a sense of humour.
The whole album is full of energetic hard rock, which refuses to let up for any of the 11 (or 12 if you get the bonus edition) tracks. All the choruses are huge and full of great, singalong lines. This, coupled with a fistful of blues rock guitar solos and barrages of drum fills, create an album to be played loud and proud.
The bonus track at the end is a beautiful, slower track, which contrasts really well with the volume of the rest of "Berlin". Sang entirely in German, the haunting "Reich Der Träume" shows a softer side in the band's writing, but still upholds the passion that the band has for their music.
This is one of those loud, fuzzy albums, which needs to be played loud and proud for all to hear that the classic, blues-rock of the 70s is alive and well.<
