This is the first full length released from the North American band called KHEMMIS. They play Doom Metal and "Absolution" shows it for us. Obviously you might ask me "is their song similar to PARADISE LOST's work?' - And I answer you "Yes, it is", or a bit like the first ANATHEMA albums. You start listening "Torn Asunder" the open track from "Absolution" and you can detect the music style you will listen the whole album. Phil and Ben, both the vocals did a great job in these songs alternating the harsh and clean vocals, the last one remembers me SEVENTH WONDER's singer, Tommy Karevik, sometimes. It's very good because his voice in SEVENTH WONDER is different than the others but it sounds good in your ears. The second song "Ash, Cinder, Smoke" keeps showing the obscure climate that "Absolution" follows. The initial riff is very creative and they put it during the song. It's a good point for then. The progress song changed while the drummer make a good ride and the kitchen keeps the song darkest than never making the listener to lose interest. And then you listen to the third, to the fourth track...

Thenceforth, the sound starts to be boring; repeating the same formula from the first two songs, only changing the music structure and it keeps from the
whole album. It's hard to find Doom Metal fans, if you compare with the other Metal styles. That's why the band must know to make something different in their songs to differentiate between them from the others. It's a primordial thing, you must know!

They're great musicians but they don't show us anything new. And the worst thing you can do is to be mediocre.
