Incised - The Hollow Earth album cover

What I love about Melodic Death Metal, that little genre, being little brother of Death Metal, yet going so much further and accomplishing even greater victories due to diversity, due to complexity and combining it with other genres e.g. Black Metal, and all its subs, Symphonic Metal, every little thing being out there bring us the world, a planet, I dare to say. INCISED, a band mixing a lot of styles and making a mosaic inside their creation.

Located in Sweden, dorm of metal, some of the greatest metal bands ever, INCISED cherish the limits and bond it up into a manifest, a fusion called Epic Melodic Death Metal. Following the paths of DISSECTION, DARK FUNERAL, OPETH, PORCULAN TREE, AGALLOCH, they have released their second work, "The Hollow Earth" album, in the first months of this year.

Kicking off with "Shadows"; by its first seconds of song you already can see the mixture I've been telling you about. The brutality and raw emotion of Black Metal stuffs your head. Fast and feral drumming, low-tuned guitars and strict riffs. Second song you'll be hearing is "Bloody Mary"; yet again you see the influence of darkly presence of Black Metal and even some other genres or sub-genres, what ever you like. A little of Prog Metal, hey, the OPETH-ish style, I like it; doomy atmosphere and intention overalls. Vocally skilled Adam perfectly fits into the environment, the picture this lay is giving to us. "A Crimson Relevation" - what to say, hmm? Imagine DISSECTION being a little more melodic, or imagine IMMORTAL being Melodic Death Metal, end of discussion. Fourth song in this playlist - "Nocturne"; this, this is something I find so familiar and known to myself. I am not quite sure of whom they are recalling me of, yet I know I've heard this, alike style and collidings or genres and tempos.... holy funk I recalled - RUIN OF REMEMBRANCE, finally, this actually took me a while realizing (I hope people won't think I am calling this as a classic rip-off, not at all; just so you know my personal collection counts over 400 bands and so far I've listened and reviewed so many others, no wonder why I find similarities). "Eternal Dream" and "The Fallen Star" last two song of the album are something I already have been listening here; they both are not departing from the first chants of the album. I can note that the tempo in these are by far slower and gives us a spectrum of Doom-ish pattern, yet also they are filled up with signs of Prog Metal.

Is this something I would like to listen to often? Probably yes. Would I recommend you to try this out? Of course! If you're fan of Death Metal, fan of Black Metal you will most surely like this act entitled INCISED. Their personal creation hasn't been limited into a form nor a picture; it's like you're reading a novel, a SF tome where you can imagine what will happen next, yet every time something new happens you are utterly surprised.
