Considering like many albums SALANDER's "The Fragility Of Innocence" starts with an intro, at the beginning there was nothing to be suspicious about. There was nothing weird about it, right up until the moment the reader had begun to speak. After some extremely strange sayings about the Holocaust and the Auschwitz camp, enters the guitars. There's something very off-beat in the guitar riff, and it's both good and bad at the same time. In the first few moments it almost seems like something went wrong in the mix, but when you get used to it, it seems to be nothing but cool and outstanding.
"The Fragility Of Innocence" is the third album by the UK rock band SALANDER. The band is mainly just those two guys, but for this album they've hosted two guests to contribute their own special skills - Frank Urbaniak on the drums and Nihal Eleftheriou in vocals. The album, such as their previous one, is a follow up concept album telling the story of an 8 year old named Silja and her mother in Iceland. The story is rather terrible and without spoiling the surprise, I'd only say you should have your tissues prepared and ready to get your chills on if you intend to read the lyrics.
After dealing with that heavy weight of the story, there's a completely different part to deal with- the music itself. The music in this album is not something you see often in our days. Actually, it reminds me of the psychedelic early days of PINK FLOYD, only with the missing qualities of modern sound. The two men called SALANDER are able to play almost any instrument out there, and the sounds are drifting as far as the ear can hear. The vocal effects are amazing and make you float to some very strange places.
I'll admit it, I feel like for over 300 words I've said nothing that could assist you with deciding whether or not to purchase this album. When I think about it, I don't know who I would recommend it to. I can say that this album is well produced, well written and well played. Like many concept albums that tell a story, it is extremely difficult to listen to one song without the others. But if you are in the mood for something heavy, dark and inspiring, with light and soft music but also a nice solo from time to time, you should defiantly give this one a listen. A word of caution though, listening to it over a couple times in a row might cause destructive results, be careful.
