Plugs of Apocalype

A good intro track can be a hard thing to do but when it is done right, it can shape your impression of the whole album. This is something that PLUGS OF APOCALYPSE have managed to nail with their second EP, EAS.
The tone is set almost instantly as the album opens with what sounds like a swift descent into the chaos of Hell, probably in some kind of mine cart. There is a wonderful marriage of electronic, glitchy beats and the kind of soft vocals that are almost reminiscent of old CRADLE OF FILTH songs. This likeness doesn't end there and I found that there are constant comparisons with the leather-clad cenobites.
The ambience of this intro is quickly pierced however as the descent plummets into a free fall and you find yourself surrounded by brutal voices and angry instruments thrashing their way through the first song. The fact that they have FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE working with them on this track is just amazing and the two apocalypses (apocalypsi?) work incredibly well with each other. The previously mentioned almost operatic vocals from Veronica Bordacchini add the kind of depth and feeling that make me want to start finding more cats from the neighbourhood to sacrifice.
The album continues very much along the vein of big, epic Metal. They list themselves as Deathcore on their Bandcamp page but I can't help but hear a massive amount of Blackened Death all over the album (OK so that's maybe too many sub-genres for one sentence). The blackened and burned elements are definitely present in the fantastic keyboard work from front man Giorgio Della Posta. As a side note, it's great to see a keyboardist as the lead vocalist. This is something that happens far to rarely in Metal and there's something about a man standing at a keyboard screaming like some kind of demonic ELTON JOHN that tickles all the right places in my soul.
The only downside to the album is that every so often the vocals break into this clean thing that I just don't have any time for. This really is just my personal taste coming through here and I know that a lot of people will love this side of the music but it just doesn't sit right with me.
So grab an air keyboard and pretend you are some kind of Freddie Mercury wraith here to destroy all who will listen. The apocalypse is coming and for some reason there are plugs for it.
