Oh boy, this was a long one. Depressive Black Metal one man project L.A.C.K (Life Affliction Can Kill) released this demo in late 2014, before being picked up by a distro, whilst citing some Post Rock influences alongside the more contemporary examples in this genre. It's hard not to get a little excited at the prospect. The old school idea of tape trading and the "kvlt" underground, makes the purist inside me foam at the mouth.

But then you realize something as "In Hermetic Solitude" drones on, this is going to be some "artistic" music. Now, don't get me wrong, I love all the arty shit as much as the next guy...but there's a limit. Sodomizing 3 notes together in an orgy of delay and chorus is not art, and it is not what the opening should be. Instrumentals should tell a story, a narrative using only sound.

"Wanderings into Infinity" is less of a musical piece and more of some avant-garde wankery that people in expensive clothing listen to whilst sipping a 45' vintage. Unengaging and devoid of anything remotely close captivating it is a pure struggle to listen to. Not in a "man this track is so bad" kinda way, more of a "I am going to slip into a coma if that damn riff repeats one more time".

I understand that Depressive Black Metal should be minimalistic and emotional. But it should never be boring, and that is exactly what this release is. Sorry guys, guess this reviewer just doesn't get "it".
