Ovenizer - SWM album cover

Did you ever listen to a random band, and immediately thought: "This is a Finnish band, no doubt"? If not, the lads from OVENIZER are here to make sure you're caught up, and it doesn't take long for the iconic Finnish sound to be recognized. The better news come to those who, like yours truly, isn't quite familiar with the doom metal scene, as you'll grow fond of the music produced here with ease.

What I find really impressive in "SWM", is that OVENIZER don't have to reinvent history to make remarkable metal of the highest quality; it just seems to flow out of them naturally without trying to overcomplicate their natural sound. Kvist's pent voice fits superbly to this genre, and the musicianship put together by these three doomsters is excellent. One song that made the entire album even better for my liking is the middle-phased "Watch", which I, personally recommend to start the album with, especially if you're more of a progressive metal fan.

What else do these Finns have in store for us in this release, you might ask? Well, the atmosphere of the album isn't too energetic, nor is too melancholic, just the right amount of gothic influence that will turn this piece into some sort of a dark masterpiece.

That being said, there are a couple of things that bother me with "SWM": the lack of the Finnish metal trademark instrument, the keyboard, and the lack of clean vocals, but if you're fine with having harsh vocals throughout the album, it's a good record that is worth your listen!
