Whorion - The Reign Of The 7th Sector album cover

I was lucky enough to see the mighty WHORION in my own county a small place called Hitchin in Hertfordshire, UK. I had no idea who the band were and to my surprise they came all the way from Finland and have to be one of the best bands Club 85 have had. Headlining the gig (of course) they delivered an epic show of brutally of epic proportions. They looked like a typical Black Metal band but they are more Technical Death Metal, for me there's a hint of Black Metal there though.

Seeing the band before I was surprised that I got asked to review their newest album (which is their first full length album) The Reign Of The 7th Sector. And my Lord of Steel, the memories of that gig came running back to me. This album is a straight masterpiece, symphonic elements included, melodic structure, Death Metal vocals, and just powerful instrumentation throughout this crushing record. A great start for their first attempt!

The greatness of this album is, EVERYTHING. There are no flaws, spot on sound production and just extremely talented musicianship. I had myself repeating this several times, true greatness. I'm so glad I got to see them Live as well as review them!

It begins with an epic opener "Flesh Of Gods" I think most Death Metal fans will most certainly appreciate this record as a classic straight from the beginning. No filler, just immense power straight off the bat. This is a perfect representation of how "Technical" Death Metal should be presented.

From insane riffs to god-like growling vocals it's safe to say most Death Metal fans won't be disappointed. For a band who formed around 2009 to release just an EP last year called "Fall Of Atlas" they really took the time to reward themselves a pretty much perfect album.

"When The Moon Bled" with swerving guitar riffs, powerful drumming and well, brutality second after second, how can Metal fans not enjoy this in general? The inner melody gets stronger here, additional keyboard elements add great enjoyment.

Transcending into "Awakening" we enter an introduction of preparation with "Blood Of The Weak" let the brutality consume you and bang that head of yours with a brutal face of approval. Not having listened to WHORION in the studio before, just Live to start with, I already knew that upon request this album had to be an already classic masterpiece that should not be overlooked. My friends who saw them Live too will agree.

This is pretty much the observation of the entire record. A powerful, pounding force that needs more attention. "Forbidden Light" continues those epic swerving guitar riffs with a pounding bass sound that leaves with a crunched fist of excitement. WHORION really outdone themselves.

The ending is pretty much again, similar to the rest of this perfect masterpiece. Having the pleasure to see them Live first time in my own home county, WHORION delivered a sensational gig (which was packed, great for a small club) and now with "The Reign Of The 7th Sector" as their first full length studio album, all I can say is I can't recommend this band enough. I've said this from the start of knowing them.

"Gates Of Time" is another introduction which ends the album with the same elements as the rest of the album, similar to "Awakening" but it really adds a fine elemental fire, I do enjoy this album greatly and will be listening to it until I die.

In conclusion to this fine masterpiece of True Metal, it has Black Metal elements but not too much, mostly Death Metal with a "Technical" side of it. Very much similar to BLOODSHOT DAWN. Nonetheless, I am excited to give WHORION's "The Reign Of The 7th Sector" ...

A much well deserved MASERPIECE ranking.
