What happens when you take a hallucinating drug and start playing guitar and drums in the middle of a desert, you would end up making something like KAMACHATKA's new full length "Long Road Made Of Gold". The band not just shows the listeners gold in this journey, but takes them to a nostalgic 60s and 70s trip with a touch of modern sound.
With trippy song structure and rusty vocals, everything in here is the typical KAMACHATKA sound bringing the heavy bluesy sound back to the masses in a very attractive way. With a new Stoner album being released every fortnight these days, the sound reminded me of the new full length brought out by THE VINTAGE CARAVAN, though "Long Road Made Of Gold" has its unique trademark sound keeping the listener interested. Right from the trippy "Take Me Back Home" to the anthemic/pub brawl styled "Human Dynamo" to the faster headbang-able "Who's To Blame", everything these Swedish legends blast is worth every minute of the listeners' time. The album has a cow boy/country side touch due to the deep riffs like in "Rain" bringing a beautiful aesthetics to the album.
Every song has trippiest lyrics that I have listened to in recent times, like in "Get Your Game On" / "Your fire's glowing, just gotta give it in. Just because you're upset with the soda, doesn't mean that you should hide. The boys down tune the guitars all the more and out comes a gem of a song in "Long Road" with some of the best sounding guitar work that I have heard in ages! Every song could easily be a sound track for any Film-noir or a Bond movie. It's hard for me to pick a favorite song for me here and I consider that's a very big achievement by the band as they leave no stone unturned. The music is simple, old school and fresh at the same time, and the fact that this is 2nd album in 2 years is hard to believe as the band seems to be turning into a Stoner Machine, producing album after an album in no time!
With 10 songs and clocking over 41 min, "Long Road Made Of Gold", like every other KAMACHATKA album is best enjoyed on a lonely drive or on a lazy afternoon. With new tasty Psychedelic Bluesy riffs backed by grungy vocals, everything on offer with the new KAMACHATKA is a must listen for all stoner-genre fans and this album is sure worth a ton of gold. The band has surely sent a message to all their seasoned fans that they are as good and alive even after 15 years. Best enjoyed on a long highway ride!
