I Am Heavy Metal, Who Are You?

OMAR have a very unique Rock N Roll sound, crossing over with the power of Heavy Metal, vocals almost sound like James Hetfield's from METALLICA's "Load" and "Reload" eras, instrumentally too, which makes me think "I Am Heavy Metal - Who Are You?" are influenced with that style. While they have that influence, on their own they create some fantastic musical value, us open minded Metal fans would enjoy.
Some great Heavy Metal headbangers on this album, "Rock Strongo" automatically made me believe that, with its James Hetfield's "Load" and "Reload" vocal range, to its instrumental influence, I already accepted this a true enough Heavy Metal record. ROUGH JUSTICE vocals also ring a bell here, until about "Spawn Of Daybreak" "Ex Voto" kicks off with a groovy riff and carries on the Rock vocals of James Hetfield. Cool.
The Rock influences continues on through, making this not only an album for us Heavy Metal maniacs, but also for Rockers who enjoy the lesser tone, think of the SONS OF ANARCHY theme song edged with a heavier tone. Yup, my imagination is a bit nuts.
Very impressive riffs as I progress into "Bring It On" and "Ground Shaker", and in some cases I like to keep Metal - Metal, but if Rock and Metal can be fused together and done right, this band knew how to do it. From what I remember listening to VOIVOD and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, these are some other heavy influences. The album ends with "Bayonet", a calming opener which got me thinking, ah, it's one of those endings, is it? Nope, the Rock N Roll carries on.
My final thoughts; I enjoyed this album quite a bit, I was happy to listen to it "I Am Heavy Metal - Who Are You?" is a generic album title but unique in its own way, which sold me. People tend to ignore the simplicity on the front cover but give it a chance and this will be a good, fine album in your collection, definitely one for Rockers and Metal Heads alike. Rock and Heavy Metal in one package - brutal.<
