Taking their name from a famous comic book character, TESSERACT possesses one of the most compelling supernatural abilities ever unleashed, I could write the same for the real world musical abilities...Since their officially and sudden over night bursting out appearance onto the Progressive Metalcore/Djent scene in 2011 with their debut album rightfully titled "One", the band has imposed itself and its sound as a new force to be reckoned with...I had the honor and the privilege to attempt the show of UK prog-metal band, TESSERACT, last year and it was a great experience...Now the band are set to release their first live audio/video concert. Titled "Odyssey/Scala", the CD/DVD and LP/DVD package welcomes back the returning ultra talented vocalist, Daniel Tompkins, he received a warm reception by the fanbase and the entire community.
"Odyssey" is the title of the audio portion, it was recorded live during concerts all around in Europe and Russia on the Altered State World Tour in the autumn of 2014 while "Scala" the DVD was filmed live on November 6th, 2014 at a sold-out show at...guess where ? ...At the Scala, London, England.
The boxset "Odyssey/Scala" is already available in CD/DVD, LP/DVD and in digital formats since May 18th in Europe and May19th in North America on Century Media Records...Recorded live over 42 nights during the autumn of 2014, throughout Europe and Russia on the tour to promote "Altered State" (that was nominated for the Progressive Music Awards Album of the Year).
The band is now streaming the entire show on the Century Media YouTube channel.

The double release of "Odyssey/Scala" is a celebration, a gift from the band to the fans, a symbolic act in order to give a warm welcome-back to the ultimate vocalist, Daniel Tompkins and it marks the first live audio/video concert package a great testimony for all the TESSERACT's fanatics...Maybe they will conquer the mind and soul of a new bunch of audience with a such a high quality product in order to demonstrate their amazing potential...Even some picky experts would perhaps succumb to the prowess and the honesty of this band, as they have succeed in capturing on tape the total excitement that was clearly at its peak in the whole "Altered State World Tour".
My review is based around the audio portion "Odyssey" with a realistic sound mix and a very sincere rendition of the ambiance :
From "Singularity" and "Deception - Concealing Fate Part Two" to the hypnotic conclusion "Acceptance - Concealing Fate Part One" the music design of the band is under its best projection ever, the returning singer Dan Tompkins (SKYHARBOR/HAJI'S KITCHEN/WHITE MOTH BLACK BUTTERFLY) superb vocal performance is more impressive than ever, while the talented instrumentists are in the form of their lives, in perfect coherence of their technical level, in full agreement with the ultra assumed and deserved reputation!
The odd patterns and the irregular pace with complex structures wrapped in a hyper-technical focus is the norm here...Sometimes a little cold or hermetical...The intelligent definition is updated by a always refined perspective, definitively not an easy listening experience but always rewarding in a long term prospective !
The triptych "Of Matter" is clocking in at over 15 minutes of intense playing...Another masterpiece at the center of their set list, clearly an highlight here and from now on a cornerstone in any of their future live performance!
The British five-piece is in a full-blown exhibition of their clever artistic craft, a demonstration of their skills helped all along their task by a very supportive English crowd!<
