Have you ever wondered what BLUE OYSTER CULT would sound like if they ever joined forces with HAWKWIND? Well... thanks to New-York rockers MIRROR QUEEN you don't have to wonder about it.

"Scaffolds of the Sky" delivers great Stoner Rock combined with the blues-rock vibe of the aforementioned giants, and does so in a very natural and fun way. Most of all, it feels like the kind of record I've been waiting for ever since I got hooked on that kind of music, and never even realized it until I heard it - like an itch you can't reach.

But I digress. The music itself alternates between three major themes: the experimental stoner groove (if you have ever heard one you'd recognize it instantly - the kind that makes you feel stoned even if you've never even been in the same room with narcotics); the bluesy-repetitive riffage of stoner rock, and the cool-guys vibe of pure and simple rock 'n' roll.

While each vibe in the record is distinct, the transition between them is smooth and effortless, and simply sounds great. In fact, "effortless and smooth" can pretty much describe most of the playing on the record: the rhythm section drives the songs, the riffs are cool and spot-on (although a tad generic at times), the vocals are a great laid-back counterpoint to the heavier, more driving instruments, and as for the leads... ohhhh, the leads. At times simple or complex, they go with the vocals to texturize the more repetitive parts of the music - a gentle suggestion rather than a command to listen. As such, the music draws you into it in many magnificent ways... consider avoiding driving or operating heavy machinery while listening.

"Scaffolds of the Sky" takes you on a space journey from start to finish, and you feel you can just kick back, relax, and enjoy watching the universe float by. So take some time off, put it on the stereo (if those still exist), kick back and watch space demons dance.
