Well, I am very confused with this album. SOUNDS OF FURY - "Mediocracy" is definitely not a bad album. The band is pretty straight forward with their Death Metal and it seemed like they know what they like. I feel like I need to say it right ahead because I have lots of things to say about this album that might come not flattering.
I listened to the album over and over again. These guys play well, no doubt about it. After all that said... I feel that no matter how many times I listen to this album I just don't find enough musical moments that I can say I really love.
The only track I can say I really liked is "Mediocracy", the theme song. Even though it's a long track lasting 7:07 I wasn't bored at all and even kind of liked it.
Other than this one, through the entire album, there are many good riffs but on the other hand there are many riffs that just don't get to me in any way. And there are some riffs which simply annoy me. On "Sidewalk Business" there is this great riff on 1:10 which just stuck in my head followed by other great moment that somehow transform to something that makes me wanna change song. There are great moments surrounded by dull moments on this track and I feel I can say that about the entire album. Usually I really like to read the lyrics with the first and second listen to a new album but I couldn't find the lyrics for this one anywhere - It was not released yet and the lyrics weren't added.
SOUNDS OF FURY say their lyrical theme is inspired by their anger and the frustration they go through by people they cross paths with in public transportation, work colleagues, political decision and speeches and so on. Not very Death Metal, at least for me. I can relate to it but I would really love to read the lyrics to see how it's brought. Too bad they are not included.
All in all, the album is not bad, but it is definitely not a great album for me. Maybe I'm just not the right guy for this one.
