Hailing from UK - England - Birmingham...The guitar player maestro Joe McGurk primary known from the underground but talented Prog Metal combo OPPOSING MOTION is released his first solo album...An instrumental guitar driven concept album merging together many genre from Neoclassical to Progressive Rock with many influences, and even some Unexpected Flamenco techniques are used to illustrate the conceptual ideas of the four elements of life (Earth, Wind, Fire and Water).
The fine production sound-design and the mixing was handled by studio wizard Dennis Ward (ADAGIO/ANGRA/SILENT FORCE), so it's not another diy cheap recording made in a tiny computer but a real high grade instrumental album, Joe McGurk's playing is impressive, stretching his creative abilities under many Guitar moods and different technical perspectives, each track is done in an authentic genuine shape with no limitation to artistic freedom!
From the long and Epic opening cut "Wind (The Calming Violence)" that's evoked by the contradiction of Mother Nature, the life vs destruction theme musically reinforced by a strong opposition between sharp leads and the Orchestral arrangements, to "Fire (The Pain and Beauty)" or "Earth (The Aging Wisdom)" which are displaying a flurry of unrelenting fretboard frenzy in the Shrapnel Records tradition, and in between we had the calmer "Water (The Graceful Stranger)" that's showing the Joe McGurk's love for the Classical Nylon strings.
The album closing is built around the ambitious orchestral trilogy composed by "Elements" and its development "Movement II - Requiem Lacrymosa"/"Movement III - Grand Finale" heavily influenced by Classical Music before returning to the electric storm of the full Shred feast and fast picking extravaganza
Lion Music once again demonstrates his deep interest for intelligent music over the commercial stuff... Thx Mr Mattson for your smart label musical & your clever choice !
Of course, this album is recommended for the Guitar freaks and the expert fans of the sweeping arpeggios in the vein of Jason Becker, George Bellas & Co.
