Pricked with positive guitar strokes, the Danish Rockers KUKO DE KOBRA, mark their second record with "A Girl And Her Giraffe". Taking pride with their classic influential music dating back to BLACK SABBATH, THE BEATLES, SOUND GARDEN AND HENDRIX, the four-piece have emphasized highly on these legends in this upcoming album.
The first track makes an impacting start. "Ocean Wide" pulls in the groovy repeated guitar riff while John Sharling's stern vocals are dominant throughout. There is a certain classic edginess to his tone, while it is clear and powerful it beams with the Hard Rock style of music. Producing such a belter as their first track leaves high regards for the following tracks. After a while of listening to the track, it almost doesn't seem like KUKO DE KOBRA's work but a commercial radio airplay track.
Their honest sound shines through, as it's simply a delight to listen to. Light bouncy melodies are wrapped around stern vocals that prove to grow with power throughout the record. Sharling even describes this release as "a rock record with a strong pop sensibility" which is exactly what you will hear for an easy and feel good boost.
Their upbeat prance soon takes a change with "Pieces Missing", presenting a NICKELBACK dampened tone. Two random tracks are thrown in the album, taking an acoustic hold with "Remember" which is slow and peacefully. Light vocals are layered delicately as Sharling's voice is suited perfectly. "A Beautiful Girl And Her Giraffe" follows later on the in record but resembles the same feel. By placing two acoustic tracks, it feels overdone and takes away its uniqueness and depth.
Pumping up the pace and chaining things once again "Shake It" brings in an aggressive tone as its everything Rock 'n' Roll is about. Loud and fast pace, the in your face attitude shines through as the track is followed by "Undecider" which also gives off the same affect.
Now it wouldn't be a Rock album without the classic guitar solo that shreds out any other song. Found in "Lone Bird On A Long Wire", a mega guitar solo is struck and produced immaculately. It's pretty impressive for a small band as it showing off their coverage over the rock genre.
"Jesse Owens And The Secret Message" ends the album surprisingly, with a special mores code message. This utterly unique and stylistic way to end an album leaves a sense of mystery behind, but also evokes a great sense of creativity.
