The Agonist

Greetings earthlings and headbangers all from this planet; I'm OverlyMetalJames and I bring you a review of the new interesting slice of brutality known as THE AGONIST with their new album "Eye Of Providence". It has been a fair long while since "Prisoners", which I believe to be one of the best Deathcore albums of all time, but I have to say that the new record does deliver.
There is however a few downers to this album, but they aren't awful to say the least and are reasonably understandable as to why they have done certain things. The vision and sound that THE AGONIST have given to the new album is deeply intriguing, Vicky Psarakis obviously has big shoes to fill as "Allisa White Gluzz" was such a crucial part of the band's sound and Vicky Psarakis truly does push her own boundaries!
The biggest letdown on the record is the song "Danse Macabre", it has a very solid song-structure but the issue is when the chorus kicks in; Vicky Psarakis is super talented vocalist but she sounds strained and is barely able to breathe when hitting the higher notes. I only hope the song never gets played live due the song needing a lot of effort to sing.
Alas, more to the positives; my favourite track on "Eye Of Providence" has to be "Faceless Messenger", I love the vocal delivery and the melody is so majestic; even the queen herself would think "Holy crap this is bloody fantastic!!". Another future classic on the new album is by far "Gentle Disease"; whoever said that Deathcore can't be good needs to get a car-jack and shove their earholes wide open for this beautiful song!
All in all this album has something to deliver for any fan in the "Heavy Metal" fanbase, and is a must buy for curious listeners, especially for casual fans who just listen to metal once or a few in a blue moon; great album!
