Mordrake - Unhallowed Chambers album cover

Despite travelling across most of the UK to see some of the greatest live Metal shows, it's always the ones close to home that end being the greatest; surrounded by like-minded friends you can enthusiastically enjoy bands to and experience some great music. I felt this way whilst watching Bristol based Dark Melodic force MORDRAKE at one of local haunt known as The Hobbit, Southampton.

I remember it being quite a Metal style treat as it encouraged every kind of enthusiastic appreciation you could possibly think of; head banging, foot stomping and fist pumping entertainment. So I am very much honoured to be reviewing their EP "Unhallowed Chambers".

So it begins with a more than enticing introduction track called "Rising"; this might be a weird comparison but I compare to the build-up of an adrenaline fuelled roller coaster where you feel anticipated yet fearful at the same time. By the time you get off; your heart is racing and your breathing is fast paced yet you want to experience the whole thing again as it was so fulfilling. I can safely apply this method with the EP, by the end of it I am left so exhilarated I want to experience the whole thing again.

If you read my previous reviews I often pick a few tracks on the album that highlight the listening experience for me; in this case each track served an equal purpose of making sure the listener felt alive and ecstatic. I also admire the way each track contained the crucial ingredients of a Metal EP; these are neck breaking guitar riffs/solos, brutally brilliant vocal work and crashing drums that would make the God of Thunder bow before them. I feel these are demonstrated best in "Rumours, Myths And Legends", "Faded From Existence" and "Within This World".

Ending on a more than positive note with "Guardians Will Return" marks a grand conclusion that will see they climb up the metal ladder.
