Noctiferia - Per Aspera album cover

NOCTIFERIA are a black metal band originates from Slovenia that stays true to the genre from the mid-nineties, when bands like DIMMU BORGIR ruled the earth. The songs are filled with keyboards, sampels, guitar harmonies, double bass and solo parts that elevate the songs to a different level and give them unique motives.

After a short intro the first song "Grief To Master" starts with the trade mark of this genre, with a dark groove pressing forward with loads of keyboards that sits perfectly with the melody, and the samples of all sorts of dark noises from the dark void, and one talented drummer that shows his skills during the harmonies between the guitars. "Fond Of Lies": the second begins with acoustic guitars that blast into carpets of double bass accompanied by a full charge of keyboards and the dark riffs we know so well from this style. This song is faster and shifts from blast bits to groove like chores that will be appreciated by the head bangers.

"Aught Against Thee", with the hammer on the snare at the beginning that turns to full attack of blasting guitars and charging vocals from screaming to growling in a heartbeat shows again how professional NOCTIFERIA are in choosing the order of their songs, the entire song is full of keyboards and unusual solos leading the atmosphere back to 95. With "God's Debris" the element of acoustic guitars starts the song but this time they are mixed with harmonies and an emotional solo that gives a great opening for this song, the guitar work on this one is extreme. In "Seething Eyes" the tribal drums on this one is a great start to any song, the guitar riffs that follows reminds of the early MORBID ANGEL and the solos take an evil turning to the best, most of the track is mid pace with bursting parts and downfalls to the dark groove that unite the NOCTIFERIA motives.

With "Realm Burn On" I expected by the name of this track to be an explosive Black Metal song and I got just that, blasting drums, breaks full of keyboards and endless double bass. "Never Rue" starts with a 40 seconds solo that transforms into a blasting black metal and returns to the solo throughout the song, the dark groove returns in the middle and consists with great drums in the background that push the limit again and again. "Err To Hell" is the last song and starts with a mesmerizing solo that shifts smoothly to the blasting of the drums that bring this album to its final, aggressive and brutal with only small breaks during the middle of the song, the best way to end this album.
