Neoplasmah - Auguring the Dusk of a New Era album cover

Every metal head has something they love about metal. For me personally, it's when the vocals are deep and growly, almost like the band DETHKLOK. This means that I'm not a fan of high-pitched growls. However there are two exceptions to this for me. One of them is CANNIBAL CORPSE, and the other, is NEOPLASMAH.

If I was to mention everything I love about this band, this review would be at least a few thousand words long. But I'll keep it short for the sake of those wanting to read this. On the track "Stargate to Infinity" the lead guitar is immediately the first thing to stand out. In fact, the lead guitar on the whole album is brilliant. The Rhythm guitar, is also an onslaught of heavy, which although isn't the most noticeable instrument on the whole album, plays brutal riffs underneath the beauty of the lead guitar. Rolando Barros absolutely trashes the drums, with a mixture of double bass, and a barrage of drums though the entire album.

Now the bass, if you listen for it, can be heard quite well. However you can hear it underneath all the other instruments too, as it bulks up the entire musical background, and helps boost the heavy factor of the guitars. The vocals of the track, are a mixture of high pitched growls, and stunning clean vocals. The best vocals on the entire track are at the end of "Storm Vortices of Neoplasmah" as the track has the vocals growls on pretty much the entire track, except the last 30 or so seconds, where the vocals enter a sort of Egyptian harmony. The vocals create the same effect, on most of the album, but most noticeably on "Storm Vortices of Neoplasmah" and "Auguring the Dusk of a New Era" which creates a nice change from all the growls, and even makes the growls sound heavier in their own strange way.

Just when you think that the whole album has given you all it has to offer, it starts playing "Absorbed in Perpetual Torture" which brings all the instruments together, and blending what they've all done throughout the album into one perfect finishing song. The song is a great ending to the album (and my favorite song on the album too) as it blends the fast intense drums, with the brutal rhythm guitar, the beauty of the lead guitar, and the sheer heaviness of the bass. The vocals provide us with the growls that we've had for most of the album. The ending of this song, ends on a solo from the lead guitar, and a short 10 second dual solo with the rhythm coming in to join the lead.

The whole album is a mark, on how some bands can produce one amazing album, and you wouldn't even have heard of them before. NEOPLASMAH have created one brilliant album, with pretty much everything on the album perfect for me. The only thing I would say needs a little more change, would be to add more clean vocals in, as the cleans worked so well in "Storm Vortices of Neoplasmah".
