The Love Album
As Light Dies

So... AS LIGHT DIES... They are a band hailing from Spain, and feature according to their social media page and their official site, quite an eclectic blend of black/death metal, with avant garde, and god dammnit even love metal! Never thought I'd review a love metal album, but hey, this is not your typical love metal album, nothing that even remotely reminds of love metal. HIM can rest in peace or whatever.
So, let's cut to the chase. The album is nothing like anything you've heard before. It's a definite blend of said genres. And blended quite good. The musical and technical ability is quite impressive, the songs are very diverse, very interesting, they leave you on the edge of your seat in anticipation, while headbanging like crazy.
The downsides to the album are the fillers. While quite interesting in their own right, they are pretty out of place on this album in my opinion, theatrical orientation of the concept album or not.
The tracks in their own right are downright masterpieces of black metal. Some of them have elements of other genres, but the black metal is what rules this album from artwork to last blast beat. If there were any downsides to this album, they are not too big, it's very interesting, one of these albums which you have to sit down and listen to them in the comfort of your home, and let each note and each sound sink in, a definite keeper in any black metal collection. Yes for some the concept of the album would be pretty awkward(after all who has ever tried writing a black/love metal album?) but these guys nail it.
My apologies for not focusing on the lyrical concept of the album, but with such great music, I'm sure I can't be blamed. A definite surprise, and a definite winner.
