Have you ever gone into the woods where the sun rays are piercing through the tree branches and fall on your face? This album 'American Hollow' by BASK has to be listened during that time due to its sheer feeling of Stoner Metal, psychedelic, carefree, Country Music feel it gives to you.  It has so many varieties and flavours in the given 6 songs that I think the band has done a great job in expressing in every way possible musically.

The album starts off with a fast paced psychedelic "High Mountain Pass" with low pitch vocals by Ray Worth. "American Hollow" goes along the same lines, except that it goes from low pitch to high pitch gradually and the riffs get thicker, and the feeling of bright sun rays gets darker slowly. The harsh vocals in this song add a new dimension to the music in addition to the regular pale clean vocals. "Land of the Sky" is an instrumental bringing in innovative riffs, giving more freedom for the musicians to express themselves. The cheekily named "Shake the Soot from Your Boots" brings back some skull breaking thick riffs (especially after 4:40), and the occasional vocals here only add as an appetizer than the main course itself.

While so far BASK showed its one side, with "A Man's Worth" it brings a new side as the music goes much slower and country side, and what it does is, it allows you to listen to the lyrics more carefully and also indulge yourself into the occasional juicy solos brought to you by the talented Zeb Wright and Ray Worth. The beautiful album ends with the longest song on offer clocking at 8:55 min "Endless Summer". It starts off in a typical country fashion with slow vocals and drums and guitars playing continuously and then picking up tempo slowly before becoming a typical Stoner song, and is a great way to end the album. As a whole it's a lively mix of groove and rhythmic Sludge/Stoner riffs and tremolo picked guitars backed by thick bass and clean country vocals, creating a unique sound not heard very often.

While the lyrics are mostly based on nature around us, the production is moderate and makes the album sound lighter than it already is. Its an album worth spending your time if you dig any of the aforementioned genres and are ready to take a walk in a thick dark forest!
