WE ARE THE CATALYST is a Rock/Alternative Metal band from Varberg, Sweden.  Members Cat Fey and Kenny Boufadene spent years touring and releasing albums as members of the modern Swedish Metal band ONE WITHOUT.  With this debut album, they felt the need to do something different from what they had previously done.  The album contains thirteen tracks.  At first listen, it centers around the kind of Pop/Rock sound made famous by bands like PARAMORE (though not quite as catchy), EVANESCENCE (though not as mysterious or introspective), and perhaps HALESTORM, though not quite as hard at its foundation.  Cat Fey has a strong and sweet voice, and an underlying electronica runs deep in nearly every track.  Transitions to passages are accented with a heavy thud which gives it that Rock feeling, and nearly every song delivers a big chorus.

Highlights on the album include the vocal harmonies in "The Void," the double bass impact in "Under the Surface," and the lushness heard in "Not Alone."  There is also an interesting departure in the emotional piece "Our Way to the Sun," where some harsh vocals are prominent in the chorus.  The best and most complete song might be "On Your Knees," where the four-note riff really hits your sense of melody.  "What You Are" offers a little vocal variation as well, where harsh vocals lead off the verses, and then the two clean voices meeting together and with harmony.  I really hear a lot of influence here from Amy Lee in Cat's voice.  In summarizing the work presented here, I feel the album suffers from too much mid-tempo rhythm and not enough variation in sound or structure from track to track.  As a whole, the album meandered; reaching emotional peaks at times just too far apart, and not delivering enough memorable hooks to really draw me in.
