Ritual Rites
The Sabbathian

Normally I like Doom Metal, normally I like the eery atmosphere it brings, the chills down my spine it sends, yet this time I'm not so happy. However, I can't fault them too much, I mean the music part is ok, but it's the boring and repetitive nature of the songs that just grinds my gears.
If this was a one song EP, it would get a better score, so let's first look at what they did well with their opening song, "Ancient's Curse". This song is ok, I can enjoy it. It has half operatic vocals slowly sung over the top of the droning riffs, yet most of the song is just pure instrumental. It's slow, dull, boring but it can be enjoyed to a certain extent. I do have to say it picks up about the four minute mark where a kick ass solo begins which is pretty impressive, I really did enjoy that part.
But then I hit the next track, and it felt like my iTunes was on repeat. Same tempo, same structure, same vocal placements, same solo placed in around four minutes, there just wasn't enough variation. It felt like this song was empty, I expected more, for the album to progress and give me something new to enjoy. I mean, the only place I felt that there was something different was during the end of their final track "Nightshade Eternal", and even then I was thinking "what's the point of adding something new during the last two minutes of the EP". If only they had done this earlier then I would be giving a much more positive review about this record!
I want to like it, but I can't. Don't get me wrong, it's listenable, but it's just lacking in many areas which I hope they can work on in the near future. They have talent, but now can they put it to good use?<
