Bastard Of The Blues

Five years have passed since we heard anything from the Ontario legends, five years later they come back with a monster of an album, "Bastard Of The Blues".
The album starts off with the title track "Bastard of the Blues", a very energetic opening accompanied by the smooth vocal stylings of lead singer Brian Vollmer, the way he sings sounds as if he is preaching the song as an anthem to the newer generation of music lovers, the sound and quality of the song sounds as if the entire track is an anthem for those who are either being denied what they want or giving the new generation a taste of what this band has always been about, without any doubt though it does the job and certainly it is indeed an anthem for those who want to punch the sky hard and scream with might.
In my opinion there should be more songs that have this much heart in them, as well as ripping lead riffs that leave you wanting more, all in all though this is truly a song for the new ages and will surely be one of the bands more anticipated songs for many a new crowd to chant along with.
The second track to follow is "Even Jesus (Wasn't Loved In His Home Town), compared to the first track even Jesus olds an old school credibility which an remind even the oldest metal fan of strong bold riffs tat made you stand on our toes in anticipation, through listening to this track three times I feel that the effort placed in this song has been carefully done and in a large way it feels as if the band are going back to their original formula, both in the quality of the lead vocals, and the originality of the guitar.
To conclude I just want to take this time in saying that i feel that Helix have really created an astounding piece of musical art, not only is it original but it keeps to hat Helix have been doing since they first started, I have been a fan of this band for many a year, first hearing of them through family and when I was asked to review this album I was really excited to be given a chance at reviewing not only a favourite of mine, but a band I have listened to since my early days in high school, and after waiting five years I am happy to say that this album is one for the books, as it will take them to a new level in the legend that they have created.
