2 years down track, OVERKILL steamroll forth with yet another Thrash manifesto. "White Devil Armory" is similar in formula to the previous release, "The Electric Age"; what can I say? It's a goddamned OVERKILL album; if you're looking for nearly 50 minutes of Thrash executed with surgical precision, you have slithered to the right place; I fail to see how it can disappoint most bar Metal's grittiest elitists.

"Armorist" has already been given to us as a taster, for those of us chomping at the bit on the Internet. It essentially everything I could want in an OVERKILL track; pure metal right from the start, the titanium pummeling of the riffs continue reverberate, even through the remainder of the tracklist. I was surprised at the chorus; simple and no-shits-given catchy, yet still "gave me what I'm looking for". Unexpectedly the track swerves in a dramatic U-turn down the Boulevard of Blistering Guitar Solo. "Pig" stood out for me as one of the album's greats, and a strong link to the previous album, with truly memorable and frantic chord progressions, and a systematic compaction of tight riffs that flow together perfectly. The vocal performance is one of the strongest on the album, boasting incredibly high-register screeches.

"Freedom Rings" begins with an intriguing bass riff molded by spacy pedal lathering. It does well to spend the first minute riling up a build-up with riffs that grow and flourish in a dramatic fashion, and foundations are shattered with the inception of the very first verse. What chisels into our skull as heavyweight Thrash subtly breaks down, groove by groove, aided by fantastic bass work. OVERKILL are damned fine at making Thrash metal not boring and monotonous. "In The Name" is a fantastically anthemic piece, a neck-snappingly heavy march, hitting the epic nail on the head, with riffs that trump most of those present on the last record.

If anything, "White Devil Armory" may be 'too' similar to "The Electric Age" for some; we all know how hard it is to please the entirety of the ravenous collective that is the world's metalheads. However, unlike some bands that have been around for just as long (if you and I are like-minded, I need not to provide a giveaway), their sound has most certainly not turned stale.
