Killchain - Where Is Your Saviour album cover

From Kosice, Slovakia, these young musicians are eager to show you what kind of sonic they have in store. They are hoping that, like me, you have nowhere to run from the blasting rage of their bloody desires.

I am having a hard time taking KILLCHAIN seriously right off the bat with the song titles on "Where is Your Saviour?". I assume that English is not KILLCHAIN's primary language from looking closely at songs like "Where the Dreams of Dreamed", "Judge Enforce Silence" and "Deeds of Anxiously Hope". I think what would have been cooler is if these titles were kept in their native tongue because, and I am speaking as an English major here, those translations sound absurd. I think when you are a deathcore band, it doesn't really matter a whole lot if you are singing songs in Slovakian or English.

But the major problem with this record is not the lazy English translations but the music itself. The songs are so similar and repetitive. It follows a very formulaic pattern of hardcore beat followed up by a Death metal blast beat. Back and forth it goes, blast beat-hardcore-blast beat-hardcore..., with a old school solo thrown in (usually the highlight of every song on "Where Is Your Saviour".

The production is surprisingly squeaky-clean on this album as well. The drums in particular sound pure and distinct. Even if this isn't your kind of metal you could find yourself listening to very often, its hard to ignore the amound of professionalism that went into constructing something so bland. There's almost a poetic, transcendent beauty about a sound mixer putting so much gentle care and precision into something that is so easily forgettable. "Where is Your Saviour?" is a forgettable work, sadly, since it is hardly indistinguishable from every other band that sounds just like KILLCHAIN.

But I suppose if you're a huge fan of bands like THE RED CHORD, ION DISSONANCE & JOB FOR A COWBOY, you would probably enjoy this record a whole lot. But for everyone who has listened to their fair share of Deathcore from the early 2000's, this will be an old, musty gust of wind from the core-encrusted past.
