Being introduced to a band through a live album always proves interesting; such is the case with German heavy rockers KADAVAR, who belt out mighty heavy rock with strong BLACK SABBATH and deliciously psychedelic HAWKWIND undertones. With this recording we have a stellar show performed in Antwerp, which also happens to include a new piece from the upcoming record.

"All our Thoughts" is a contentious pick for an opener, given the myriad of energy-generating tracks the band has at their disposal. I instantly fell in love with the intro to this piece, powerful and uplifting, with many a SABBATH-ian lick. These subtle grooves, coming especially from the band's bassist, Dragon. Never before had I heard this band, but I could tell immediately, that I would be mighty pleased with attending one of their shows. No pun intended, "Black Sun" comes off as a darker piece, the verses stripped down to a naked, organic rumble, Christoph projecting a twisted, painful lyric with a truly 'old school' feel projected by the gorgeous classic guitar tone, and the high-gain rumbling of "Dragon".

"Eye of the Storm" is the aforementioned new material. At this point, I was expecting another heavy, mid-tempo groove, but was poignantly introduced to a much more aggressive and heavier piece. This track is somewhat more in the vein of "Killers"-era IRON MAIDEN, with a more raucous vocal delivery and especially technical guitar work. "Purple Sage"; how could the set list possibly miss out on 11 minutes of psychedelic prog? The true beauty of this piece is that, at least from my perspective, never once instills boredom; there is always something going on, regardless of the thick and intricate arrangements, perpetuated with sickly sweet amounts of fuzz.

As a live album, it is of top-notch quality, which must transition at least somewhat into the live display. My only criticism would be the slight lack in diversity amongst the set list, with "Purple Sage" and the new track just enough to break what could have been a drawl.
