It's Your Fear That Feeds Their Power

I am pretty curious as to why I am listening to this album in the middle of 2014 when ENRAGED released this album in 2012. This album is really a life's work form these Dutch gentlemen. The band was formed in 1999 but after breaking it off with his last band Asfive, Douwe Talma desired to make a more melodic Death Metal album. But "Its Your Fear That Feeds Their Power" is the bands' one full length that they've managed to release. But there are multitudes of powerful musicianship throughout this album. This band has acquired quite an impressive list of guest musicians on this record as well. The album features solos from James Murphy (OBITUARY, DEATH, TESTAMENT), Andy La Rocque (KING DIAMOND, AT THE GATES, DEATH), Christofer Malmström (DARKANE), Jens Van der Valk (GOD DETHRONED, AUTUMN) and Jos Hindriks (DISINTEGRATE). As you might have imagined, all of these solos are magnificent.
The music of ENRAGED delivers intricate, riffs over the ratchet-tight drumming of the founding member Douewe Talma. The fact that the band can also pull this off live as well is equally as thrilling. Rarely does the album lose any momentum and the solos are always amazing and as diverse as the featured musicians on this record. People who are already into bands like ARSIS, SKELETONWITCH, KALMAH & just about any worthy Melodic Death Metal band you can think of. This band is sparing with their melodies though, it's mostly straight-forward Death-like blasting and ripping Metal with no real keyboard presence and only a few short movie sample clips. With the exception of the song "Respice Finem", which is a short but sweet acoustic melody, the album is really gets its hooks into you on every song. Some of the most addictive tracks, "Confusion" or "Intolerable Misconduct", stand out on this album making it worth many listens on repeat.
This album was a tad nostalgic, bringing me back to the day when bands like AT THE GATES, IN FLAMES & ARCH ENEMY were blowing my teenage mind with masterful solos and catchy chorus hooks. It's a well-deserved nine out of ten and hopefully the album will gather more positive press which will lead to a subsequent album from ENRAGED.
