Kamchatka - The Search Goes On album cover

I have to admit it. The first time I listened to this record I thought they were just a heavier version of Black Keys. Don't get me wrong, I love Black Keys, and Blues Rock in general, I just don't like clones.

But then, after listening many times, I got to understand this is not just a mere clone. There is way more than that in "The Search Goes On". There is not only Blues in here. There is Hard and Heavy, there is Rock and Roll, there is Stoner Rock and there is Psychedelic Rock. But all this is mixed with a modern twist and despite this sounds wrong most of the times; I mean it the best possible way.

Despite losing their main songwriter Roger Öjersson, the quality of their work still remains high, as the replacement of Öjersson, Per Wiberg, best known for a past in OPETH, has been more than up to the task. His bass work let "Juneor" free to play his guitar and the results have been amazing. His riffs are probably the most powerful I've heard from him since he's been playing with KAMCHATKA and it seems to hear Jimi Hendrix back on stage. Ok maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but the comparison is not too off the mark.

"The Search Goes On" starts off with the two strongest tracks of the whole album, "Somedays" and "Tango Decadence" but you can't be more mistaken if you're thinking the rest of the album is weak. The first two songs are arguably two KAMCHATKA instant classics but the rest of the album is still strong and keeps you entertained from the beginning to the end.

In conclusion, despite the first impression that may strike you and make you think this is something you've already listened to, this a solid and fun work, and it's truly rare to find both these elements combined nowadays. I highly recommend listening to this Swedish trio, it will be a pleasant surprise for all of you that didn't know about them yet.
