Revelations In Alchemy
Shroud Of The Heretic

SHROUD OF THE HERETIC is a Portland based Metal trio. And I can tell by their sludge like grungy sound too. "Revelations In Alchemy" is there first full length album, which follows an EP. These guys have a very raw sound about them, as well as the Portland rich Grunge like Sludge Metal mix. I would like them to mortician, but not nearly as fast. There is definitely a kvlt feel to the album. The only downside I see to this personally is that it is a little repetitive. Not too say it all sounds exactly the same but it all seems to be that deep almost drone like sound of sludge metal.
The vocals on this album are very low. They sound pretty much the same as MORTICIAN. The drum work is ok lots of blast beats, but no real double bass work. Speed is not a part of this album. The guitars are tuned down a lot, and there really is no speed or intricacy. All in all the music is slow heavy and grunge like. I'm not going to knock the skills or talents of any of the members, but there's nothing over the top at all.
So overall i wasn't really impressed with this album. I liked it don't get me wrong but it doesn't seem like they put a whole lot of effort into the music. It was dark, eerie, and heavy.
