Hailing from France, Strasbourg to be more precise, DESDINOVA's new album was named "Defying Gravity" and like many bands they chose the hard way and released the album independently. DESDINOVA define their music as Progressive Thrash Metal, a kind of genre that I prefer sometimes cause it's breaking the boundaries of Thrash, as over the years it would appear that there is no hope for it other than being boring. Don't get me wrong there are still some good Thrash bands like DEATH ANGEL for instance, however after first listen to the "Defying Gravity" I can say that this is not typical yet nor it is a real progressive album, it's more of a Heavy meets Power meets Thrash. Guillaume Manier, on vocals, tries to convince with his James Hetfield vocals but with a higher pitch occasionally. I liked this voice pattern though.
Can't say that this album is a masterpiece of this fusion of genres, however I found it very likeable, I enjoyed the feel of ICED EARTH and even JAG PANZER, I think it will remind you of those bands. Before I forget don't miss the following songs, "Solanumb" if you are into if you are into "Ride The Lightning" with a twist and "Faster Than Light" if you are into ICED EARTH.
