Alabama is slowly becoming one of this writer's favorite areas for Rock bands; after recently speaking with Lynam, I am now introduced to fellow Alabama Rockers DESPERATE HERO. The thing is, these bands all know a shit ton of songs and gladly incorporate those covers into their sets while writing and recording some damn killer music of their own. That's cool as I know one area of the country that can't seem to get along and find that happy mix (my own area that is).

DESPERATE HERO came together late in 2012 so with what they have already music wise, you know these are seasoned guys and looking deeper they are indeed. They have music with a message too. "Hero" is a song about written to bring awareness to missing children and it is a great song. It opens with a short full band chorus sans the music which kicks in with a very old school Rock sound and with tight melodic work by this three piece outfit. Almost reminds me of some lighter, BON JOVI-esque style to it really when BON JOVI was a Rock band that is.

The band lists GODSMACK as an influence and you can hear that on "Chapter 7" with some hints of FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH albeit in a lighter sounding style that is their own. Cool tune with some tight work by the band, some flirting with a growl here and there (FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH reference) and a nice lead by guitarist Troy Reid.

Reid and Umstead had a successful run with a regional Prog band prior to them being joined by Berg so that has a lot to do with the tight riff work and timing changes, they work seamlessly together and Berg has some serious skills on the skins. These guys are lifers when it comes to playing their instruments with breaks here and there as we all do, but together they make a formidable wall of sound and song. I would be very interested in seeing them live if the chance comes around. Great style, great musicianship, songs with a message and 50% of sales go to the charity Love Hope Strength. What else is there to say? They rock and they are good guys.
