Lie In Ruins - Towards Divine Death album cover

Normally, I'm a guy who likes his extreme Metal - actually most of the time I love it. At this point, I can say I'm pretty confident that I've gone way too deep - buying up all sorts of vinyls and obscure 7" vinyls to discover new content. So, how is it that I haven't ever heard of LIE IN RUINS?

I mean, my god. LIE IN RUINS just straight up pummels your senses. There is so few words to even say for this extreme metal masterpiece. When it's slow, its crushing and bassy, but when its fast it cuts like a knife. The vocals are so perfectly in-tune with the style that I can't honestly say it has any imperfections besides... well; maybe it is a little too perfect at times.

Since you can clearly tell I have fallen for the band, I'm going to base this review strictly on my thoughts about "Towards Divine Death". Which, unsurprisingly, is a fantastic Death Metal album. Personally, my favorite tracks is "Venomous Tongues". This is mostly because, instead of being slowly planned out and completely tight like most of the other tracks - LIE IN RUINS opted for a more traditional balls-to-the wall approach. This track kills, I mean it, it is no doubt the best most head-banging track I've heard as of 2014.

Much to my pleasure, LIE IN RUINS also changes things up a little here and there. At times you'll be like 'hell yeah, this rules' then all of a sudden there will be some massive doom influenced piece that'll hit you like a ten-ton weight. Best example of this is "Sacrum Vitae" which really shows off all of the bands influences.

This album is amazing, to be honest I don't know why you'd be reading this and not just listening to it. No doubt, an amazing start to the New Year.
