When it comes to Progressive Death Metal, most of the times you really can expect a complete different sound of what you originally expected. And these days all the genres became mostly homogenized, you hear one band of the kind - you`ve heard the most of them (in some rare cases you heard them all). That`s one of the things you won`t find on Vancouver`s TRIBUNE album.

Their fourth album "Tales" is a concept album drawing inspiration from the works of H.P. Lovecraft, H.G. Wells and Homer. It`s a nine track lyrical rollercoaster, with all the other aspects following. It opens with impressive title track and all the other follow with more or less greatness.

What`s most interesting on this album (besides lyrics) is the amazing and seemingly natural mix of growls, becoming incredible strong clean vocals, with natural progression on the screams.

The bass on this album is varied as the riffing, and it comes with lots of energy, mostly noticeable on "From Funeral To Funeral". It`s quite clear produced album, with vocals sometimes taking up most space even there`s more interesting things happening in the background, most noticeable in "King of Ithaca".

"The Butterfly Effect" brings some good ideas, and the "Horror" brings the Trash-y  sound into the first plan.

It`s not the greatest album of them all, but sure has a lot to offer. It`s quite different, and versatile, something you`ll miss on first listening. After few listening it starts to grow on you, and make you want more.
