From Darkness
I Exist

I EXIST is a band that I would definitely name as one of my favorite bands coming out of Australia. Crafting the most compelling Stoner / Sludge Metal, the band's style is deeply infused in the old school sound of BLACK SABBATH and EYEHATEGOD, whom they mention as major influences. "From Darkness" is definitely the band's most solid and mature effort to date. With a runtime of merely around 45 minutes, the album is not so easily digestible for non-stoner-accustomed ears.
The album starts with the ungodly furious and fast "Lightning Curse" followed by "Heal Me In Smoke" which is actually in the same. The very throaty and hoarse vocals by Jake and Aaron complement the wicked, ominous riffs. It's in "Sorrow On Hill 105" and "Eternal Reign" is where you can absolutely hear the huge SABBATH Influence. Still, the band's personal touch is present and compelling, bringing together bluesy riffs, dirge doom, hardcore aggression and a dirty, sludgy atmosphere. "Ride To Hell" is somehow the catchiest, featuring a sultry solo and "Cold World Vermin" is definitely one of the most solid and well-written tracks on this record.
Bottom line: A highly recommended album for those seeking an old-school-sounding well-crafted piece of Stoner.
