Deriding His Creation (Reissue)

Originally released in 1998, "Deriding His Creation" laid the foundation for the emerging brutal death metal style that dominated the late 90s / early 2000s death metal scene. Guttural vocals, crunching guitars, and pulverizing drumming may be commonplace now, but in 1998 it didn't really get much more extreme than DEPRECATED. Reissued on Unique Leader with new packaging and a fuller, heavier sound than its original, "Deriding His Creation" is rising from the grave and once again focused on crushing the weak and trampling the timid.
The guitar work on this record always stood out for me with its slow and punishing SUFFOCATION grooves and soaring tones that seemingly gallop with ease throughout each track. Young drummers take note as the double bass pedal work of Torrey Moores is played nearly perfectly and makes extreme Metal drumming sound easy. Despite the musical prowess, what truly makes this album a classic is the sound of the record that captured the heaviness and boldness of a newer guitar tone in death metal that emphasized slower and more groove-laden riffs without compromising the dark qualities of older Death Metal guitar tones. This is something that unfortunately is lost on many newer Death Metal recordings that seem to disregard entirely the influence of older Death Metal in terms of sound in all aspects.
Whether you are a fan of DEPRECATED from back in the day or just hearing of them now, pick up this piece of Death Metal history and bang your head until it falls off. DEPRECATED will be hitting the road soon and they so happen to have picked up Terrance Hobbs on guitars, if you miss that when it comes to your town you should probably jump in front of a bus.
