Eternal Torture

How's it hanging folks? It's that time again, time to get your head bashed in by some good old fashioned metal, this time the bashing is provided to you courtesy of German Melodic Death Metal outfit ETERNAL TORTURE, the band have been around since 2008 and this is their second full length. I will say right off the bat that this is an album that pulls no punches, don't let the Melodic in Melodic Death Metal fool you, right away you're hit with some of the heaviest and fastest riffs this side of CANNIBAL CORPSE.
There's not too much melody in the opening track "Dresscoat Meat", it is as heavy and as brutal as they come. One thing you'll notice when listening is that the album is rather short for a 10 song affair, clocking at around 35 minutes, that shouldn't surprise you though, the entire approach of the album seems to be very old school, the songs are short and to the point, in fact there's not a single track going over 5 minutes, a fact that will certainly please the fans of the classic Death Metal genre.
"Hate Prevails" is an example of the more melodic, more of a groove oriented track it flows in a slower pace for the most part and feels a bit less brutal than the rest of the album. "Never Forgive And Never Forget" is the shortest song in the album; however it does continue the slower more melodic orientation of the previous track. "Rise In Death" for me was a real stand out a song which really seems to capture the feel of the album combining its brutality and heaviness with the more melodic aspects.
I do however have a couple of problems with the album, as old school as it seems at times it sometimes tends to flow towards the "core" and in all honesty, I'm not a big fan of that, another point that bothered me was that the vocals seem to at times be distorted or use some sort of effect, and that's something I'm again not a big fan of. On the other hand, within this record the positives outweigh the negatives, "Song of the Weak" is a perfect example of how good this band can sound despite what I would call modernization of the Death Metal sound.
This record certainly shows a lot of potential from the German beasts, a much recommended album for both fans of the old school sound as well as fans of heavier Modern Metal.
