Three
Majestic Downfall

After having been a long-term member in ANTIQUA, Jacobo Córdova called it quits and went on to pursue a sort of solo-project entitled MAJESTIC DOWNFALL, venturing into a doomier territory than in his previous band. Jacobo has already released two full-length studio albums along with a demo, all in which he handled almost everything by himself and "Three" is his third studio effort.
With MAJESTIC DOWNFALL, Córdova mainly aims to "recapture the feeling of the 90s European Doom Metal", in which he succeeded perfectly, but with a stronger vibe of Death Metal. You can hear it all in this album. A grim, mournful atmosphere fraught with sinister and ominous-sounding guitars as well as the forceful yet deep death growls. "Three" is a natural progression of the band's previous material. It's also quite impressing that guitar solos are included in several tracks without feeling like an afterthought or superfluous. Most tracks run over 7 minutes yet the album doesn't feel like taking forever to go through, being pleasantly yet gloomily enjoyable.
You might not feel so interested in the opening track "Nails" which would sound like the most down-to-earth Death-doom stuff at first, but then comes probably the most interesting track by MAJESTIC DOWNFALL entitled "White Dark". This is by far the backbone and the best sounding song of the album. Things get quite heavier and more Death Metal-sounding towards the last tracks, mainly "Funeral Wings" and "Black Death Immaculate", the latter being also one of MAJESTIC DOWNFALL's greatest songs to date. The closing track "Federica" is a mellow instrumental where all starts to calm down and it somewhat departs from all the preceding gloom into a brighter atmosphere.
Córdova managed to flawlessly create one of the finest Death / Doom works I've came across this year all by himself displaying great virtuosity and proficiency in both songwriting and playing. This album wouldn't fail to intrigue any fan of the genre.
