Battlecross - War Of Will album cover

BATTLECROSS is a pretty straight forward Thrash Metal band. The instrumentation and song construction seems to be on the same level as other modern Thrash bands such as LAZARUS A.D., ULTRA-VIOLENCE, and ERUPTION, in fact those were the bands I thought of when I heard "War Of Will". This album is very energetic from start to finish it really packs a punch and will satisfy any modern thrash fan. For fans of older classic, "first wave of Thrash", this album may take some getting used to. While the tracks are all different they seem to hold the same formality for the duration.

One reason the tracks sound loosely similar to each other is the vocalist. The vocals on this album do nothing for me, most of the time the mix is buried beneath the high screams and that was one of the major reasons I wasn't able to enjoy this record as much. The guitar riffs and harmonies, bass lines, and somewhat decent drumming were drowned out by the obnoxious vocals. Occasionally the vocalist dropped down to a tolerable growl and the rest of the music shined forth. Reduce the amount of raspy screeches and the music here is really good. The guitar work shows some variety and originality in both the riffs and solos. The bass is pretty strong and does a solid job of supporting the rest of the band. There were a few decent drum fills here and there and some blazing fast blast beats I was not expecting. If you're looking for an album that will blow you away with something new and amazing don't look here. This is some good thrash but nothing really ground breaking. Honestly, if you pass this album up you aren't missing anything.
