Kadavar - Abra Kadavar album cover

That old rush, sweet smoking mystique, I just can't have enough of all the haziness gushing through my body. I am not a dopy person, nor I will ever be, but not I understand why plenty of old Rockers, and mainly hipsters, relished the pot business. I can assume that with the right vibe, mostly driven by the right kind of music, possibly the phrase "ecstatic" won't sum the generated feeling. But on I go, as I want to present you the Berliners KADAVAR, a trio of dudes that went way back to find themselves rocking the chairs of the 70s. To simplify, KADAVAR is a gloomish and Doomish, yet quite Rockish, musical entity that has a thing for early to mid-70s Hard Rock, charming in the spirit of old BLACK SABBATH (Ozzy era), PENTAGRAM, BLACK ROSE, KING CRIMSON, slight oozy and stoned as early PINK FLOYD and HAWKWIND (before Lemmy left the eagle while flying). Furthermore, following their debut album, and into the depths of their second "Abra Kadavar", this group was signed by their local giant, Nuclear Blast Records. I'd say that it was a perfect choice, add that smoking pack into the vicious Metal realms to have the big guns of Metal how to produce cool 70s showcase (also with the right flavor of sound, looks and clothing).

Some would probably argue that KADAVAR isn't that special as respectfully their music isn't the news of day, certainly not tomorrow but of the bulletin of yesterday. Additionally, originality is also in question, a mere mimic, judging by their music as it sounded like taking some of SABBATH, a bit from FLOYD, swarming the air with a brittle top of HAWKWIND and CRIMSON for the atmospheric consciousness, and here you go, a KADAVAR release. On the other hand, who said that it can't be done no more? There aren't rules for fans to create something in the vein of what they admire. Furthermore, on most cases this is only a stage of development until that one band / artists will find itself / himself in accordance. Following KADAVAR, this band has been refashioning the old dispositions, attributing the old guard, using the obscurity of pre-Metal indulging darkness with some respect to the lord of the downstairs. Unlike many other bands, KADAVAR has been doing it quite good, entrusting their faith in what seems to be right for them, they spawned extraordinary compositions reasserting the 70s glory. Their rhythms range between simple snare / kick into bewildered mastery of ample techniques, crunchy guitaring sharing the same vibe with extra crisp soloing and iron like vocals, not too shabby or hearty, which might meet with Ozzy's decoration, but can also cross directions with some of the key artists of vintage Rock. The music is flowing, at times a bit dreary, but still can be regarded as magical nonetheless. The sound is something else, much polished and clean in contrast to the older albums, but otherwise spectacular.

"Doomsday Machine" is a pure proto Metal music, the crossing towards the rather composite features of NWOBHM, yet still steel plated with the classic breed of the 70s. However, if you wished for straightforwardness, and something a bit easier to suck in, take on "Liquid Dream", might be a bit monotonic due to its main repeated riff, but it is so fluent and memorable that it won't leave you. "Dust" and "Fire", two mesmerizers comprised of a hardcore BLACK SABBATH influence, along with exquisite soloing and possibly the latter inhibits the best vocals performance of this entire release. "Rhythm For Endless Minds" is the picture of inconspicuousness, awkwardness, stony induced mania, like "Planet Caravan" on speeds, insanity has something good going. In general, this a great album, not original, but quite show of admiration to vintage Hard Rock and proto Metal.
