where our fingertips meet

to writhe love on her arms

This was an album that’s an advanced study in contrasts. The vocals rage intensely at times, to the point that they grate in your ears and threaten to drive you mad. But much of the music is so pretty, you don’t mind. It raises your blood pressure to near boiling at times, and lowers it into a sleep like trance at others. Through it all, it carries you on an emotional journey through the stars, and while it played, I was at peace…at least while the songs lasted.

From Bandcamp, "Sparkling moments that don't last long. Pain so infitesmal, and overwhelming love, and when the dimly lit shys away, and dancing figures retire. All that's left to cry and sing: A void in memory, and shadows of the dark." The album has eleven songs, and "remember when we used to…" is first, and it's very ambient in nature….smooth, melodic, and intriguing are words that come to mind. "songs of silence, the most beautiful" begins with bright melodies and a sense of positivity. Even know the vocals are tortured screams, the melodies soar. The harsh vocals come with a heightened sense in the instruments, but when they fade, it's quite calm and soothing. "ghost in the air" is aptly titled, and it does indeed bring with it wispy and whimsical feelings. The vocal screams are very intense, but strings and guitars screech into the heavens.

"daisies" is the kind of song where the image of the flower always makes me smile. Daisies are simple, but colorful, and they remind me of spring…a time of renewal where nature reawakens. The song is enduring in that regard. "leaves turn to dust" roars out of the gate with screams that could wake the dead, but by contrast, the music is jovial and bouncy. The differences in these extremes is indeed stark, and the extended instrumental passage is calm and fills the room with warmth. "like fireflies at night" settles some of the chaos that the vocal screams bring to the album. It does rise, as I can imagine a field lit with fireflies on a warm summer night. There are some minor phasing issues, but for me they add to the authenticity of the album.

"when autumn turns to nightfall, and the sky comes crashing down" charges forward like an army in the night hell bent on revenge. The tones are hurried, but also wonderfully melodic, and piano is a welcomed addition. "variations" again hears much of the overload rest. Although the vocals burn white hot at times, the music sooths the savage beast, so to speak. Is that a dance rhythm I hear? Why not? It straddles the line between anger and hope so very well. "where our fingertips meet" is the final cut, and back in comes the ambiance, in all its glory. The cool down really lets the album's gentler side show though, in streams of light from the heavens that warm your face all the way down here.
