Ill Begotten Means

According to their press kit, they got the name ENEMO J (pronounced "eeneemo jay") from a patriotic group. It is a horrid name. Before I knew how to pronounce it right I thought it had something to do with enemas. Now that I know how they want me say it, I think it sounds like the name of Silent Jay's Emo cousin. I am not going to hold any of this against them though. there are a lot of great bands with shitty names (DANZIG, DAUGHTERS, DOWN, and I'm just looking at the D's ) and they have all made cool albums, so why not these guys?
"Ill Begotten Means" opens with a clip from "The Boondock Saints", something only a handful of bands have done before. The first 1:13 of their title track was pretty good, but then something happened that will go on to plague this entire recording. Someone besides the lead vocalist Craig started singing....Badly. Most of the time the culprit is the drummer Finn. Now let me be clear about something. I have no problem with multiple vocalists, in fact I love it. MASTODON and CALIBAN immediately come to mind as bands that do that splendidly. What both of those bands have that ENEMO J is lacking is more than one person capable of singing. Finn does not sing in key consistently throughout his parts, and no matter how much they layer his voice with effects, it is clearly bad.
When "Heaven Is My Hell (Without You)" started I learned that Finn wasn't even the worst singer on album, it is whoever the female singer is on this track. Wow. I don't know who it is, but she is terrible and the song is terrible as a result. "Children Of The Night"through "Cold"are mostly the same recipe of songs. All of which at some point get soured by the change-of-pace out of key vocals. The highlight of the album is "Intentions Aren't a Crime Yet".It is intense, thrashy and Craig seems to be the only vocal input on it. I recommend buying this song as it is the high water mark of the album. This is followed up by "White Noise". "White Noise" is by far the worst song on this album and should never have made it on the final product. It is such a horrible display of LIMP BIZKIT Rap Metal trash that I could barely get through it. Once again, someone else taking over the vocals and ruining a song, which is a common theme for this album. There was a song after this but it was retroactively ruined by "White Noise". Jeez, even that title annoys me.
The cover art shows a character that closely resembles the villain from Zero Wing. If this was intentional I love it, if not I hate it. I do not know who designed it, and the band did not care to say in their press kit.
