Gone with the Devil
Yoth Iria

From Bandcamp, "After years of inner peace, the chants of the unholy can now be heard again. A grand blend of heavy/doom and epic black metal that will travel the underground into dark realms and silent hills." The album has 10 songs, and "Dare to Rebel" is first. It begins with vocal chants, and a very ominous feeling. Each riff note, each drum strike, seems regal. Add in the harsh vocals and backing ambiance, and you have a magnanimous feeling. There are also some MAIDEN-esque guitar harmonies, and the lead breaks are excellent. "Woven Spells of a Demon" also has an ominous feeling, and it's obvious that the seriousness of the music will come through strong. For me, it feels like the end of the world during a similar meteor shower that killed the dinosaurs. Hell fire reigning from above…that kind of thing. There is also an unidentified reed instrument…a recorder maybe?
"I, Totem" has a darkness that spreads like shadows when summer fades. The vocal work is harrowing, and the backing guitars (and keys?) keep the sound as frightening as the noise in your closet at night. "3 am" is commonly referred to as the "witching hour," or the time when you don't want to be awake. Funny enough, this is time I rise every morning. Not only are the tones somber here, but they are also matter-of-fact. "The doors are open, the demons are here" he warns. "Give 'Em My Beautiful Hell" is a slow mover high with power from the riffs. For me, it sounds like the natural progression of the FWOBHM if it ever would embrace the darkness of harsh vocals. This isn't my typical go-to type of music, but it's fantastic, and I am wholly entranced in the album. "Blessed Be He Who Enters" is a short, three-and-a-half-minutes of somber and catchy elements presented as a four-course meal. Besides the obvious aggression, it also embraces melody.
"The End of the Known Civilization" pushes a dark power like the magic of the ancients. It's enough to save the world, if only you could figure out how to wield it. A marching cadence in the drums tells you it's now or never. "Harut, Government, Fallen" is the final cut, and all of the instruments come together to form a unified front. Meaty bass notes, clean vocals, harmonized guitars, and even the kitchen sink. Overall, this was an excellent album that fans will find exactly what as advertised. Epic is word that gets tossed around a lot, but here, that's exactly what you feel. Throw in some Doom for good measure, and those wicked Black Metal vocals, and you have a mashup that will come for your soul.
