GHOULHOUSE hailing from Sweden were formed in 2020. The Death Metal outfit release their third full-length album "Realm Of Ghouls". The album has a length of about 32 minutes, and it was released via US Death and Doom Metal specialists Horror Pain Gore Death Productions. The opening track "Hacksore" starts with a short, tension-building, guitar-driven introduction, transitioning into the fast verse part. The guitar sound is the typical Swedish chainsaw sound. The guitar riffing is direct and powerful. The vocals are growls, varying around the deeper end of the guttural range. The chorus slows down to a measured tempo, while the chorus line adds a highly pitched scream. There is a short mid-tempo break with a contributing lead guitar solo. "Rotten Rancid Remains" continues with the old school Swedish Death Metal onslaught. The guitar riffing is devastating at mid-tempo. There are switches in tempo and rhythm throughout. The vocals are relatively monotone without any marked tonal shifts. The break is short once again, and so is the lead guitar solo. "Mall Full Of Zombies" starts with crushing basslines and the main guitar riff. While the verse parts are played in the classical Swedish Death tempo and rhythm, there are more lead guitar contributions throughout the track, starting already in between the verse parts. The tempo for the choruses is slowed down, and the vocals deliver additional higher pitched screams. The main lead guitar solo contributes to the track very well.

"Kingdom Of Squirting Worms" is introduced by crushing guitar riffs, before it gets a bit frantic with a short blast-beat driven part. Finally, the track goes back to the main album rhythm for the verse part and slows down to measured tempo during the choruses. The break gets a little bit chaotic in pace and at its heart is a cool lead guitar solo. During the choruses, the vocals have backing vocal support, delivering the higher pitched screams. "Where Ghouls Are Bred" starts with an extended guitar-driven instrumental part, including a lead guitar solo. The sound of the track offers a slight change, where the tempo is mainly measured with powerful guitar riffs, while the lead guitars provide a more melodic approach compared to most album tracks. The melodies have a certain catchiness, which makes the song different compared to the others in the album. "Dying In The City (Of The Living Dead)" is an almost three-minutes inter-lude with sound effects and plenty of atmospheric patterns and tribal vibes. After the previous two tracks, "Fetid Flesh Fairytale" goes back to the Death Metal business. It goes back to the classical rhythm during the verse part and the measured tempo during the choruses. There are a few blast-beat attacks included, accompanied by short lead guitar solos. The vocals get once again higher pitched backing vocal support during the choruses. "Fetid Flesh Fairytale" was uploaded on YouTube by the label and the link is provided below. "Pit Of Maggots" continues with the sound and offers devastating guitar riffs, providing a bone-chilling atmosphere. While the chorus parts slow down a little bit, the break maintains the tempo of the verse parts and another contributing lead guitar solo is delivered.

The title track starts with a short, guitar-driven introduction, providing a grim atmosphere to the track, before transitioning to the mid-tempo verse part. The guitar riffing is direct and very powerful. The chorus starts with a twist to measured tempo and then all hell break loose with a fast and frantic part. The track then circles back to its main rhythm. The vocalist offers more versatility by introducing more tonal shifts. "Rothead" reverses the song textures in terms of tempo and rhythm. The verse parts are played at measured tempo with thunderous guitar riffs, accompanied by plenty of double-bass drumming. The choruses switch to mid-tempo with backing vocals delivering the higher pitched screams. The album finishes with "Devoured By Famined Pigs" and the track starts melodic with the guitar riffs and the lead guitars. What looks like a change in sound, lasts for the opening minute only, then the track delivers punishing guitar riffs at mid-tempo for the chorus line. "Devoured By Famined Pigs" is with only two minutes the shortest track, but a good way to end the album.

GHOULHOUSE deliver a good album. "Realm Of Ghouls" offer traditional Swedish Death Metal with the chainsaw guitars, the typical mid-tempo rhythm, and a spine-chilling sound. The guitar riffing is devastating, while the growls are blood-freezing at times. Perhaps, the album sounds a bit monotone, since many of the tracks are very similar. The album is well produced with a raw sound. Fans of the Swedish Death Metal sound will be delighted with the songs on "Realm Of Ghouls".
