Abissi formed in 2018 in Milan,Italy emerging from the creative minds of Francesco Menghi (ex frontman of Veracrash),Lucas Ibba (ex drummer of alternative rockers ODE),Agostino Marino (ex guitarist of post grunge band Little Pig),with the line up completed later with Alessandro Stranieri on bass whose  new-wave goth added another layer to the band's identity.Abissi blend psychedelic heavy rock drawing their influences from stoner and doom to alternative, grunge, noise and new wave.In 2020 Abissi released their debut single "Interzona",then two years later their debut album "Oltre" in September 2022.Now having signed to Octopus Rising/Argonauta Records they release their sophomore album "Paramagia" which features the lead single "Pizzo".

"Paramagia" is made up of eight tracks, all the lyrics are in Italian and three of the eight tracks are instrumental pieces,The album opens with " Funerale in Messico" which has a slow tempo, which is laden with some heavy & gritty guitar tones,in parts of the track there is some psychedelic trippy touches,"Pizzo" the follow up track which in english translates to protection payment, continues with the heavy riffing, however the tempo is mid paced and a bit more lively than the opener, its a blend of punk, alternative and garage rock, possibly the best track on the album at just over 2 minutes long."Le Chiese" is indulgent, intense bassline & slow, buzzy guitars riffs, towards the latter of the track the tempo does gain momentum towards the end the track. The first of the instrumentals "Grabovoi" has a heavy guitar presence, the rhythm is tight,it has a grungy/new wave feel and is an enjoyable instrumental piece, maybe with lyrics this would be a better track than some of the ones before it? Another instrumental piece follows and this passage of music has a more ambient & electronic feel and is a very intense piece of music."Cemento" is another track which is again guitar lead with some atmospheric vocals,"Madame Cristina" is another short track at under three minutes ,which again has a slow tempo, hard hitting drums which give the track more pace."3424" is the last track of the album, which is another instrumental piece which maybe has the heaviest melody on the record and i think would be another good track with vocals.

"Paramagia" was not my cup of tea at all.I found it too over indulgent, not enough tempo or pace or energy,it was too intense for my musical taste. At times I also found it to be depressing and hard to listen to.There is no doubt the Abissi are talented in what they do,but I think their music is of an acquired taste, which on this occasion unfortunately its not mine.
