Foretold in Ashes

Chaos Revealed

Overall, this was a solid album in the genre, and although it seems the duo is just getting their feet wet, they already have a strong foundation that they can build on for a future LP. All of the characteristics of MeloDeath are there, and it’s a catchy and powerful album.

From Bandcamp, "CHAOS REVEALED is a modern melodic death metal project from Munich, Germany, formed by metal veterans Konstantin Schäffer (vocals, guitars, bass) and Alexander Lankes (drums). Their sound fuses heavy guitar riffs, harmonized leads, blast-driven aggression, and progressive structures with an epic, cinematic atmosphere."  The album has five songs, and "Mortal" is first. It has a tense opening, followed by a fast and aggressive riff drop. The vocals are almost all harsh, with the exception of some opening cleans. The signature guitar harmonies are present as well. "Burning Skies" is a harder slab of Metal, with contentious riffs, darkness swirling overhead, and deadly vocal screams. The vocals are sung with an intensity that doesn't let up, and the dual guitar harmonies help to break them up a bit.

"No One Above" is more straightforward aggression, akin to adding accelerant to an already raging fire. The flames burn long and burn hot, and no amount of chemical or water will extinguish them. "The One Who Sees" begins slower, with some nice dual leads over clean guitars, and then comes the explosion of sound. This riff is super catchy, and it has a slow and powerful grind to it. The clean vocals are a nice surprise as well, and they help to temper the aggression. That's the style in a nutshell. "The Plague" is the final song. It's another aggressive offering with some varied vocals and dual leads. The extended lead section is also accompanied by clean vocals, and there are a lot of shadows in this sequence.

Overall, this was a solid album in the genre, and although it seems the duo is just getting their feet wet, they already have a strong foundation that they can build on for a future LP. All of the characteristics of MeloDeath are there, and it's a catchy and powerful album.
