DARK DIVINATION is a one-man band hailing from Finland are were formed in 2022. This is the artist's debut full-length album. "Selvännäkijä" is first. The first thing I notice besides the obvious chaos and aggression of the music is how awful the production is. I get that this is traditional or some might even call it raw Black Metal, but the muted production makes it very hard to hear any changes or shifts in the music. It sounds like they have turned up the mids to 10 and left everything else off the EQ. "Burn" isn't much better, although it does have a distinct somber groove to it. The drums, guitars, and vocals all combine to make a cold song with a bitter bite. The title track takes the word chaos to even new boundaries, and it's akin to adding accelerant to an already raging fire. "Hymn of Hate" is another contentious and sinister offering that again uses some distinct riffs within the aggression. There are also some light orchestral moments.

"Kohti Ikuista Tuhoa" has the raw power of Black Metal at its helm. The first half of the song is slower, and more somber, but it picks up mightily, and has a steady pace of destruction going forward. "Katse Menneisyyteen" incorporates some wonderful keyboard notes that make the song sound like it's taking off into outer space. I love the tinge of originality on an otherwise straightforward album. "Liitto Hengen Ja Veren" is the final traditional song, because the closer is an instrumental. Again, it's thick, and aggressive, but doesn't offer anything new to the genre. "Fall from Victory" is the final song. I would have loved more of the lush synth tones on the album, because they come through strong here. This is FWOBM inspired music, which means it's raw, primal, and aggressive. I always look at albums through a forward thinking lens however, and this album is just stuck in the past glory days.
